Question 1097427: Two trains leave towns
656mi apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One train travels
22/mi h slower than the other. If they meet in 4 hours, what is the rate of each train?
Answer by Boreal(15235) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
speed of slower is x
speed of faster is x+22
They have a combined speed of 2x+22
they meet in 4 hours which is 656/4=164 mph combined speed
therefore, 2x+22=164
2x=142
x=71 mph--slower--in 4 hours travels 284 miles
x+22=93 mph--faster--in 4 hours travels 372 miles
