Since the number of sodas has to be 5 times the number of bags of chips, the solution is much easier if you make "unit"s of 5 sodas and 1 bag of chips. The cost of one such unit is 5($0.50)+$2.00 = $4.50.

If you spend $45 on those "units", it is clear that you need 10 of them. So what you buy is 10 bags of chips and 50 sodas.
