in x hours, B writes x/3 songs, Mike x/4
Set them equal to 14 songs
x/3 + x/4=14
multiply by 12 both sides to clear fractions
4x+3x=168
7x=168
x=24 hours, during which Billy will write 8 and Mike 6 songs.
