Question 1068389: anne had $51 saved in her piggybank at the beggining of the month. She earned $ 7 an hour babysitting and $5 an hour working in the garden. if she did not spend any money, and now has $160, how many hours did she babysit?
Answer by josgarithmetic(39621) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
She earned .
7 dollars/hour baby sitting
5 dollars/hour garden work
-
b hours baby sat
g hours garden
THIS IS ALL THAT CAN BE DONE UNLESS.....
Did I miss something? You can look for some whole number combinations from the linear equation that work.
There are at least TWO combination which will work; and maybe you could find others.
-
g must be a non-negative real number, and b must be a non-negative real number.
-
Some non-whole positive values might also be acceptable, if they involve simpler rational mixed-number values. Look for them!! What whole numbers for g will give meaningful results for b? What happens if g=4? What happens if g=5? What others?
