Forty people were employed.
x + y = 40..........(1)
The payroll was $4351
124x + 95y = 4351......(2)
...................
x + y = 40..........(1)
124x + 95y = 4351......(2)
Multiply Eq(1) by 95
95x + 95y = 3800......(1)
124x + 95y = 4351.....(2)
Subtract Eq(2) from Eq(1)
-29x = -551
x = 19.
Substitute x = 19 into
Eq(1)
x + y = 40 .....(1)
19 + y = 40
y = 40 - 19
y = 21.
Heavy equipment operators = 19
Labourers = 21
