Call the number, x. Then we write
2x + 2/x = 5
Multiply by x and solve...we get
2x^2 + 2 = 5x
2x^2 - 5x + 2 = 0
(2x - 1)(x - 2) = 0
so that
x = 1/2 and x = 2
