x-y=12----(1)
5x=17y----(2)
from equation (1)
x=12+y---(3)
put (3) in (2)
5(12+y)=17y
60+5y=17y
17y-5y=60
12y=60
y=5
put y=5 in (3)
x=12+5
x=17
