Hi there,
Make the number of books you read = 'x'
Your friend read 2x - 1
Total:
x + (2x - 1) = 20
x + 2x = 20 + 1
3x = 21
x = 7
You read 7 books
Your friend read 13 books.
Hope this helps :-)
