eight years ago, Mr. Fontana was six times as old as his son. In twelve years' time, he will be twice as old as his son. How old are they now?
--------
Equations:
F-8 = 6(s-8)
F+12 = 2(s+12)
-------
Rearrange::
F - 6s = -40
F - 2s = 12
----
Subtract and solve for "s":
4s = 52
s = 13 (son's age now)
-----
F = 2s + 12 = 38 (Father's age now)
----
