Question 1004760: If a student spent $68 dollars in cards. A stack of cards A are $4 each and a stack of B cards are $7 each. If the student bought 11 stack of cards, how many stacks of A and B were purchased?

From the facts we have
4A + 7B = 68 and
A + B = 11
Multiply the bottom one by 4 and subtract from the top one and get
4A + 7B = 68
-(4A + 4B = 44)
----------------
3B = 24
B = 8 stacks of B
A = 3 stacks of A
