Multiply eq. 2 by (-2)
1.2x%2B5y=14
2.-2x%2B6y=8
Then add the two equations and solve for y,
5y%2B6y=14%2B8
11y=22

From eq. 1,
1.2x%2B5y=14
2x%2B5%282%29=14
2x%2B10=14
2x=4
x=2
