Question 430710: If anyone could please help me to solve these four problems it would be awesome! I am extremely lost. Please help! Thanks!! They use the Substituion Method & Addition Method. I can't figure out the solution sets. Thank you!
#1 Substituion Method:
x+y=1
x^2+xy-y^2=-11
#2 Substituion Method:
x^2+y^2=180
x-y=-6
#3 Addition Method:
2x^2+3y^2-30=0
5x^2-7y^2-17=0
#4 Addition Method:
x^2+y^2=16
y^2-3x=16

Question: Solve the following systems of equations algebraically and check.
2/3x + y = 13
-x + 2y + 5
I am having truble understanding what to do since it has a fraction. I keep getting decimals and when I check the answers are not coming out correct.

Question 432969: my question is this:
There were 44,000 people at a ball game in Los Angeles. The day's receipts were $369,000. How many people paid $13.00 for reserved seats and how many paid $6.00 for general admission?
in the class, we are working with using systems of equations to combine equations and eliminate one variable to figure out the other variable ie:
x + y = 5
x - y = -9
2x = -4
x = -2
and those types of problems. for this question, i can not figure out what to use as variables for either side of the equation. the other word question we were given gave 6 variables, so we were able to plug in a numerical value to each section. here- theres only 4 numbers.
is this a different type of question entirely, or- am i just missing the point entirely?
thanks in advance!
