A circus clown at the top of a 60 foot platform is playing catch with another clown on the ground. The clown on the platform drops a ball at the same time as the one on the ground tosses a ball upward at 80 ft/sec. For what length of time is the distance between the balls less than or equal to 10 feet?

Question 91078: Tickets for and event cost $4 for children, $12 for adults, and $10 for senior citizens. The total ticket sales were $2160. There were 60 more adult tickets than child tickets, and the number of senior citizens tickets were 2 times the number of child tickets. How many of each tickets were sold? Thanks in advance

Question 91141: I got this wrong, and the instructor did not explain why. Can you enlighten me?
There are 385 surfers at Surf City. 2/3 were boys and 1/12 were girls. If there are 2 girls for every boy, how many boys and how many girls are there in Surf City?
I got 385(.66) = 130.90
1/12(2)(385)=247
That only equals 377 in lieu of the 385

Combined population of City A and City b was 25,000 in 1990. By 1995, the population of city a increased 10% and city b increased 9%. Total population increased by 2380 people, so what was the population in 1990?

(x – 2)/5 – 3/2 = (x + 1)/10
I have tried this and came up with 3 1/2 or 3.5. When I replaced the x with this solution and worked out both sides, the answer on both sides of the = where different.
I am stumped and even my sister who is 30 and just finished her algebra course could not figure it out.
Please help me to figure out where to begin.
