During the 2003 NBA playoffs, the top-scoring player was Kobe Bryant. He scored a total of 385 points during the playoffs. The number of free throws (each worth one point) he made was 11 more than three times the number of three point field goals he made. Bryant also made 26 fewer free throws than two-point field goals. How many free throws, two point field goals, and three-point field goals did Kobe Bryant make during the playoffs?
I have x = 3y + 11
x = z - 26
x + y + z = 385

If a drink and sandwich together cost $5 and the sandwich costs 60c more than the drink how much does the drink cost.
i worked it out by
5-.60=$4.40
4.40/2=$2.20
so the drink costs $2.20 and the sandwich $2.80.
but how do i work this out using an algebric equation?
im sure its simple but i just can't get it.
