The perimeter of a rectangle is 24 centimeters. The length of the rectangle is four more than the width. What is the length of the rectangle?

The perimeter of a rectangle with length L and width W is P=2L%2B2W. Since "The length of the rectangle is four more than the width" we know that L=4W. In addition, because "The perimeter of a rectangle is 24 centimeters" we can say that P=24.


So this means that the equation is 24=2%284W%29%2B2W. Let me know if that helps.

The perimeter of a rectangle is 24 centimeters. The length of the rectangle is four more than the width. What is the length of the rectangle?

Let the length of the rectangle be L

Then its width = L - 4, since the length of the rectangle is four more than the width

Perimeter of any rectangle = 2L + 2W. Since the length and width of this rectangle = L and L - 4, respectively, and since its perimeter is 24 centimeters, then we can say that:

2L + 2(L - 4) = 24

2L + 2L - 8 = 24

4L = 24 + 8

4L = 32

L, or length = 32%2F4 or highlight_green%288%29 centimeters.
