Question 182272: BEEHIVE.... A farmer is tracking two wild honey bees in his field. He maps the first bee's path to the hive on the line 7y = 9x
The second bee's path follows the line y = -3x + 12. Their paths cross at the hive. At what coordinates will the farmer find the hive?
I think that I should try to line the variables up on one side, then add one set of variables together and also the integers and then solve for that respective variable. After solving for that variable, I can plug it back into one the two line equations and then find the other variable. The two variable points I get are where the bees' paths intersect?
I made 7y=9x----> 7y-9x=0
I made y=-3x+12----> y+3x=12
I then added the x's together and get -6x=12...solving by division for x, I get x=-2
plugging -2 for x back into the second equation I get y=18 but this does not work at all for the top equation!
Where have I gone wrong or what do I need to do differently????

let a= almonds
c+a= 62 lbs
c= 2a
Then i tried:
2a+a=62

Question 182497: I have a 4 by 4 system of equation that I'm trying to solve using a matrix.
I'm very stuck on the row reduction. Please help.
Here are my equations:
a+b+2c+d=14
2a-b-c+d=8
a+2b+c-d=15
3a-2b+3c+2d=24
and this is the matrix I have so far (sorry, I'm not sure how to put the brackets):
[1 1 2 1] [14]
[2 -1 -1 1] [8]
[1 2 1 -1] [15]
[3 -2 3 2] [24]
Please help me. This is due today. I've been working on it all night.

Question 182960: It costs $1.70 to buy supplies to make a fork and $1.30 to buy supplies to make a spoon. The store sells the fork for $5.60 and the spoon for $5.40. They spent $37.90 on materials for forks and spoons. They sold the finished product for $147.20. How many forks and how many spoons did they make?
I did 1.70x + 1.30y = 37.90 as one of my equations
5.60x + 5.40y = 147.20 for my other
I have tried substitution and get tangled up with the decimals
I have tried addition and get messed up. Seems I get decimal answers and can't seem to work it into a whole fork or whole spoon without it being a decimal. What am I doing wrong, or are my equations not correct and this is where Im going wrong.
