Question 85531: 2x+y=2
4x+y=4
If you multiply one of these by -1, the Ys will cancel, enabling you to solve it for x:
-1(2x + y = 2) --> -2x - y = -2
4x + y = 4 --> 4x + y = 4
-----------
2x = 2
x = 1
Now plug 1 in for x into either of the original equations to get y:
2(1) + y = 2 [using the first eqution]
2 + y = 2
y = 0
The solutoin is (1 , 0)

Question 86906: Yuk! I hate applications. I always get mixed up picking picking what goes where in the equations. I had one person show me how to solve it using just equations, another showed me how by using a table. I'm confused with both of them.
Here it is.

Question 87578This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra
: Good Evening Tutor,
I have a question from a question in the textbook. The area of a triangle is
A=1/2bh.
My question asks: Solve each literal equation for the indicated variable.
I am solving (for b) the area of a trapezoid and the equation is
A=1/2h (B+b)
I am unsure how to change the equation to find b can you please explain to me what equation to use and why? I am sure that B+b will be the lengths of the 2 parallel sides but I am unsure how to get to the answer. Thank you greatly for your help. This question is from textbook Beginning Algebra

Question 88168: Please help me solve this. I have the answer, but I'm stuck on how to work the problem to make my answer match the one that was given to me. I was told to use it as a guide to compare my work to the answer that was given to me and I'm really stuck. The problem is:
1/3x+2/1y=3/1
2/3x-3/5y=2/5

Question 88314: I dont understand the following: solve by graphing
x+y=7
2x-y=5
The instructions also say if you solve the system and the variables both add out, you need to tell whether the system consists of lines that coincide (infinite solutions) or parallel lines(no solution)
