Question 993698: Good morning or afternoon whichever time zone you are in. I have a question about a linear equation I would like to ask. The problem is:
x=7-4y
6x-5y=-45
My question is, with the equation x=7-4y, do I add 4y to both sides of the equation so it looks like x+4y=7, before continuing to solve the rest of the problem?

No, you should substitute for x in the second equation with the first equation.

Then solve for y.
Then go back and use the first equation to solve for x.
