Difficult question to answer and depends on what you mean by solution.
has no solution over the real numbers but over the complex plane and are both solutions.
So for polynomials, if the degree of the polynomial is n, there are n roots which may be real or complex.
For other equations, it depends on the type of equation.
Example,
has no real solutions since the sine function has a maximum of 1.
also has no real solutions, again the complex plane offers solutions.
