L = W + 2 --------------(1)
P = 2(L + W) -----------(2)
Substitute equation 1 in equation 2.
P = 2(W + 2 + W)
P = 2(2W + 2) = 4W + 4
Since perimeter = 20,
4W + 4 = 20
4(W + 1) = 20
Divide both sides by 4
W + 1 = 5
W = 5 - 1 = 4.
Substitute W for 4 in equation 1.
L = 4 + 2
L = 6.
L = 6 inches and W = 4 inches
