Solve by substitution
x + 5y = 0
-2x -4y = 6
----------------
Solve an equation for one of the variables.
For example, solve the 1st equation for "x":
x = -5y
----------
Substitute that value of x into the 2nd equation:
-2(-5y)-4y=6
Sove for y:
10y-4y=6
6y=6
y=1
---------------
Substitute that value of y into the equation x=-5y
x=-5*1 = -5
-----------------
Solution for the system of equations: x=-5, y=1

Question:
Solve by substitution x + 5y = 0
-2x -4y = 6
Answer:
x + 5y = 0 ------------(1)
-2x -4y = 6 -----------(2)
(1)==> x = -5y
Plugg this value of x in the second equation.....
==> -2(-5y) -4y = 6
==> 10y - 4y = 6
==> 6y = 6
Divide both sides by 6
==>
==> y = 1
That is value of y is 1.
Now substitute the value of x in the given equation....
==> x + 5*1 = 0
==> x + 5 = 0
subtract 5 from both sides....
==> x + 5 -5 = 0 - 5
==> x = -5
That is solution is..
x = -5 and
y = 1
Hope you found the explanation useful.
