Question 906699: Could you all verify my work for me and make sure I did it right. I was suppose to simplify the following x/6=18/4 I did the following
simplified to 18/4 to 9/2
X/6=9/2
I multiplied both sides by 6
my answer was X=27. Is that right I just am learning this and i am still realy shaky. I appreciate all of your help folks, thank you.

You can first simplify the number on the right of the equality symbol, AND THEN SOLVE FOR x, if you want to know x; but the pre-simplification may be up to you:

NOW you can multiply the left and right members by 6, and continue any simplifications.





Know the properties of numbers, and TRUST them. You will then usually have no doubts about your steps. The properties will work; you just choose which ones to use as you find necessary from step to step.
