How do I solve algebraically? y=5x+6 and 2x-5y=16.

You need to assume the "y" in the two equations mean the same number.
Then you substitute the value of y (y=5x+6) into the other equation
so you can solve for "x".
You get: 2x-5(5x+6)=16
2x-25x-30=16
-23x = 46
x=-2
----------
Then you substitute that value of x into "y=5x+6" so you can solve
for "y".
y=5*-2+6
y=-10+6
y=-4
-------------
So the solution is x=-2, y=-4
