Question 831053: What is the equation of the line that is is parallel to
y= -x + 3
and passes through the point (-4, 5)?
I understand that -x = -1x = slope
and that since the lines are parallel, they have the same slope, but how do i find the y-intercept? if it passes through (-4,5), would the y-intercept be 5?
thank you!
Answer by josgarithmetic(39617) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Knowing the slope of the needed line but not knowing the y-intercept, your equation would be y=-x+b. You do not yet know, but need to find b. You are GIVEN a point which must be on the line y=-x+b. Can you take the next two steps? x=-4, y=5.... what is b?
