Question 791741: Determine whether the system of linear equations has (a) one and only one solution, (b) infinitely many solutions, or (c) no solution. Find the solution, if one exists.
5x - 4y = -7
-10x + 8y = 14
Lost and confused. I have read and watched lectures on this but cannot figure it out. Thanks for the help.

Answer by solver91311(24713) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Each of the equations will graph to a straight line. If the two graphs intersect at one point, then there is one solution. If the two graphs are parallel, then there are no solutions because parallel lines do not intersect. But if they are the same line, then they intersect at every point and there are infinite solutions. Multiply your first equation by -2 and then write back and tell me what you think the configuration of the graphs of the two lines are.
