Question 781947: Given the following two equations:
y = 18x + 370
y = 46x + 170
These two lines intersect at the point where the x value is equal to ?
I set the equations equal to each other.
18x+370=46x+170 subtract terms
28x=200 divide
x=7.14
But when I check 7.14 is wrong.

Answer by Alan3354(69443)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
y = 18x + 370
y = 46x + 170
These two lines intersect at the point where the x value is equal to ?
I set the equations equal to each other.
18x+370=46x+170 subtract terms
28x=200 divide
x=7.14
But when I check 7.14 is wrong.

If it's a computer entry, you might need to enter 50/7 for the answer.
7.14 is not wrong (to 2 decimal places), but might not be what's expected.
It's a weakness, or problem, of online courses.
