Find the point of intersection graphically:
y = -2x+6
8 = 5x-y Rewrite this equation as:
y = 5x-8
Now let's graph the two equations:

The red line is y = -2x+6
The green line is 8 = 5x-y
From the graph, the point of intersection seems to be: (2, 2), what do you think?

Solve the second equation for y

Subtract 5x from both sides
Multiply both sides by negative 1
Now graph and and see where they intersect
graph of and

So the intersection appears to be about (4.5,15). Of course this is all an approximation since I'm using the graph.
