Question 774035: Solve the linear system of equations.
x-3y= -6
5x+3y= 42
So far I have tried;
y=1/-3x+2
5x+3y(1/-3x+2)=42
Not sure if that is right so far or if I am completely wrong and either way I am not sure where to go from there.
Help is much appreciated, thank you!

Answer by josgarithmetic(39618)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Given, these two equations:x-3y= -6
5x+3y= 42

x=-6+3y, from first equation.
5(3y-6)+3y=42 for second equation.
15y-30+3y=42
18y+30=42
18y=12

3y=2

You can now, having found y, find x.
