Sounds like you want to simplify this. To do so, you need to find LCD before you can add the fractions
(x-2)/3 + (y+1)/5
5(x-2)/15 + (y+1)/5
(5x-10)/15 + (y+1)/5
(5x-10)/15 + 3(y+1)/15
(5x-10)/15 + (3y+3)/15
(5x-10+3y+3)/15
(5x+3y-7)/15
So (x-2)/3 + (y+1)/5 simplifies to (5x+3y-7)/15
