Question 702085: Can you please help me solve this linear equation using substitution.
1/2x + 3y = 5/6
1/3x - 5y = 16/9
Thank you.

1/2x + 3y = 5/6 we will subtract 1/2x from both sides of this equation
1/3x - 5y = 16/9 *
*************************
3y = 5/6-1/2x next we divide both sides by 3
y = 5/18-1/6x ** now we plug this into the equation marked with *
1/3x-5(5/18-1/6x)=16/9 next we keep simplifying this one, multiply out the 5
1/3x-25/18+5/6x=16/9 combine like terms
7/6x=19/6 multiply both sides by 6/7
x=19/7 now that we have x we need to plug it back into equation marked with **
y=5/18-19/7(1/6) simplify
y=5/18-19/42

reduce top and bottom by 2
