Question 688640: I am having trouble using the substitute method to solve the simultaneous equation:
y=5x+3
y=2x-9
I have tried to substitute variable y of the second equation into first:
2x-9=5x+3
And then solve for x, but I'm not getting the right answer?
Please could you explain what I am doing wrong and how I should be doing it.

5x - 2x = -9 - 3
3x = -12
