Question 682092: What is the solution to the system y > −2x + 2 and y > −2x + 5?
A. no solution
B. y > −2x + 2
C. y > −2x + 5
D. all real numbers
Answer by jim_thompson5910(35256) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Graph both y = -2x+2 and y = -2x+5
Shade above these (dashed) lines and use different colors (or different pencil strokes). You'll see that the two regions overlap above the line y = -2x+5. This is the final solution region.
This final solution region is really just the solution for y > −2x + 5 since y > −2x + 2 has no influence in the answer at all.
So the solution to y > −2x + 2 and y > −2x + 5 together is just y > −2x + 5 because the solution region above y > −2x + 2 (but below y > −2x + 5) is not counted because it does not satisfy y > −2x + 5.
Once again, the answer is C) y > −2x + 5
