Answer by ReadingBoosters(3246)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Starting with 4y + -1x = 4
4y + -1x + 1x = 4 + 1x
4y = 4 + x
divide the entire equation by 4
y = x + 4/4

...
Starting with 1y+1x=6
1y+1x - 1x = 6 - 1x

...
Settng the two equations equal and solving for x

multiply the entire equation by 4
x + 4 = -4x + 24
isolate the x alone on the left side
x + 4x + 4 - 4 = -4x + 4x + 24 - 4
5x = 20
divide both sides by 5
x = 4
Use x equals for and solve either of the original equations for y
1y + 1(4) = 6
y + 4 - 4 = 6 - 4
y = 2
...
(4,2)
