One apple has 100 calories and 24 grams of carbohydrates. One avocado has 350 calories and 14 grams of carbohydrates. How many of each should be eaten to get exactly 1000 calories and 100 grams of carbohydrates?

Let amount of apples to be eaten be A, and avocados, P
Calories equation: 100A + 350P = 1,000 --- 50(2A + 7P) = 50(20) --- 2A + 7P = 20 -- eq (i)
Carbohydrates equation: 24A + 14P = 100 --- 2(12A + 7P) = 2(50) --- 12A + 7P = 50 -- eq (ii)
� 10A = � 30 ------- Subtracting eq (ii) from eq (i)

A, or amount of apples to consume = , or

2(3) + 7P = 20 ------- Substituting 3 for A in eq (i)
6 + 7P = 20
7P = 14

P, or amount of avocados to consume = , or
