Answer by Algebraic(50) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Step 1: You're going to want to distribute the '-2' to everything in the parenthesis.
You'll get:
Remember that a negative (-) and a positive (+) = a negative (-). A negative (-) and a negative (-) = a positive (+).
Step 2: Combine like terms
You'll get:
Step 3: Subtract '10' on both sides to get '3y' by itself.
You'll get:
Step 4: Divide '3' on both sides to get 'y' by itself.
You'll get:
The answer is:

5y -2(y-5)=19
according to BODMAS rule, we will first open the bracket
5y -2y +10 =19 {{-2)*(-5); Here we are multiplying two negative number,so the answer will be positive, +10}
3y +10 = 19
Now subtract 10 from both the sides
3y +10 - 10 =19 -10
3y = 9 To get the value of 'y', we need to separate it from 3 but
here 3 is neither added nor subtracted to 'y' ,rather it is
multiplied to 'y'. In this case when we shift 3 to the
opposite side of the 'equal to' sign ,it will be divided
there.
y= 9/3
y= 3
