Equation 1: 3x + 5y = -19
Equation 2: 6x + 7y = -23
Multiply the first equation by 2 to get
Equation 1: 6x + 10y = -38
Subtract Equation 2 from new Equation 1 to get
3y = -15 ie y = -5
Substitute y=-5 in Equation 1 to get
3x + 5 *(-5) = -19
3x - 25 = -19 Add 25 to each side to get
3x = 6 ie x = 2
So x = 2 and y = -5

Problem 2
Equation 1: 2.1x - 0.6y = 8.4
Equation 2: -1.5x - 0.3y = -6
Multiply the second equation by 2 to get
Equation 2: -3x - 0.6y = -12
Subtract Equation 2 from new Equation 1 to get
5.1x= - 20.4
Divide each side by 5.1 to get
x = 4 Subsitute x = 4 in Equation 1
2.1x - 0.6y = 8.4
2.1*4 - 0.6y = 8.4
8.4 - 0.6y = 8.4 Subtract 8.4 from each side to get
0.6y = 0 Therefore y = 0
