Question 604421: Fatuma recently hired a plumber to do some necessary work. On the final bill, Fatuma was charged a total of $990. $340 was listed for parts and the rest for labor. If the hourly rate for labor was $65, how many hours of labor was needed to complete the job?
(A) First write an equation you can use to answer this question. Use x as your variable.
Answer by rosey51235(30) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Well, If you have a total and a one-time fee, then the hourly rate would be the coeffecient of your variable (x).
990=65x+340
Then, you solve like an algebra problem, subtracting 340 from both sides...
650=65x
Now, divide both sides by 65, and this will give you the hours of labor provided.
650/65=10.
So, according to this, 10 hours of work were done on the plumbing system.
Hope I helped! :)
