x + 2y < -12
and
3x - y > or equal to -2

Answer by uma(370)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x + 2y < - 12
3x - y > or equal to -2
To check if (-1,-5) is a solution we plug in these values in the given inequalities.
==> -1 + 2(-5) < -12 [considering the first inequality]
==> -1 - 10 < - 12
==> -11 < -12
This inequality is not true as -11 is > - 12
So (-1, -5) doesnot satisfy the first inequality.
3x - y > or equal to - 2
==> 3(-1) -(-5) > or equal to -2
==> -3 + 5 > or equal to -2
==> 2 > -2
This inequality is true .
So (-1, -5) satisfies the second inequality.
Since one inequality does not hold good for the given values, we conclude that (-1, -5) is not a solution for the given system of inequalities.
Good Luck!!!
