Question 563494: x+2y=0
3x+4y=4

Answer by Maths68(1474)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
x+2y=0...........(1)
3x+4y=4..........(2)
Multiply (1) by 3 both sides
3(x+2y)=0(3)
3x+6y=0...........(3)
Subtract (2) from (3)
3x+6y=0...........(3)
-3x-4y=-4..........(2)
------------------------
2y=-4
2y/2=-4/2
y=-2
Put the value of y in (1)
x+2y=0
x+(2)(-2)=0
x-4=0
x=4
x,y = 4, -2
