This is already set up to do the elimination method. Note that both equations are in Standard form and that the coefficients on the variable are additive inverses of each other.

Just add the two equations, that is add the right side of the first equation to the right side of the second equation and add the left side of the first equation to the left side of the second equation. The variable will disappear and you can then solve the single variable equation in . Once you have a value for , substitute it back into either of the original equations, then solve for
