These equations have already been reduced, so all you need to do is combine them in a way that eliminates either the X's or Y's. Notice that #1 has a +y, while #2 has a -y. Those will cancel each other out when added together. So just add the two together.

becomes

3x=6
x=2
.
Then just plug into the easier original equation.

y=5-4=1
