Question 480759: 49x^2-14x-3
I have to factor. I got the common is 7 but it is not turning out right for me. please help.

Answer by algebrahouse.com(1659)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
49x² - 14x - 3
Factors into two binomials:
- 1st terms are factors of 49x².....could be 49x and x....or 7x and 7x
- 2nd terms are factors of -3, when you put them in, the outer and inner terms of the foil method need to combine to make -14x....only one combination works

= (7x - 3)(7x + 1) {factored into two binomials}

outer terms = 7x
inner terms = -21x
combined = -14x {the middle term, therefore these are the correct factors}
