Question 471439: 2x+y=7
x-3y=5

Answer by mananth(16946)   (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
2 x + 1 y = 7 .............1
1 x -3 y = 5 .............2

multiply (1)by 3
Multiply (2) by 1
6 x + 3 y = 21
1 x -3 y = 5
Add the two equations
7 x = 26
/ 7
x = 3.71 OR 26/7
plug value of x in (1)
2 x + 1 y = 7
7.43 + 1 y = 7
1 y = 7 -7.43
1 y = -0.43
y = -0.43OR - 3/7
