: Solve equation for ordered pair
x^2+y=4
2x+y=1
This question is from textbook COLLEGE ALGEBRA
Answer by mathchemprofessor(65) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Equation 1->x^2+y=4
Equation 2->2x+y=1
Subtracting equation 2 from 1, we get
x^2-2x=3
x^2-2x-3=0
By factoring we get, (x-3)(x+1)=0
x-3=0 or x+1=0
So,x=3 or-1
When x=3,2(3)+y=1 or y=1-6=-5
When x=-1,2(-1)+y=1 or y=1+2=3
