how do you prove your solution is correct in a linear equaton?
Substitute the solution back into the original equation. If you get a
true statement, then you do have the correct solution.
Example:
x + 5 = 7
x = 2 {subtracted 5 from both sides}
Substitute back in:
x + 5 = 7
2 + 5 = 7 is a true statement, therefore 2 is the correct solution for x.
