ok, if I understand you correctly,
4x-y=1
Since 4x does not contain the variable to solve for, move it to the right-hand side of the equation by subtracting 4x from both sides.
-y=-4x+1
Multiply each term in the equation by -1.
-y*-1=-4x*-1+1*-1
Multiply -y by -1 to get y.
y=-4x*-1+1*-1
