Question 330868: How do I determine if these are consistent or inconsistent?
2x + y = 7
x - 2y = 7
Answer by Fombitz(32388) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Solve for x and y.
If you get a solution, it's consistent.
If you get a result of "0=0", it's consistent (they are the same line).
Any other result, it's inconsistent (they are parallel lines).

.
Multiply the first equation by 2 and add to the second,
Then use either equation to solve for y.
Since you have a solution, the system is consistent.
