Question 327930: 3y-1 < 8y-3
use set builder notation to describe the complete solution?? please help
Answer by rapaljer(4671) (Show Source): You can put this solution on YOUR website!
3y-1<8y-3
Subtract 8y from each side:
3y-8y-1<8y-8y-3
-5y-1<-3
Add +1 to each side
-5y-1+1<-3+1
-5y<-2
Divide both sides by -5, and don't forget to REVERSE the sign because you divided by a NEGATIVE number:
Set builder notation is {y|y>2/5}, which is read:
THE SET of all values of Y, SUCH THAT, y>2/5.
