but if you want to solve the following by eliminating y:
:
1x + 2y = 3
2x + 1y = 3
Multiply the 2nd equation by 2 and you have
1x + 2y = 3
4x + 2y = 6
-------------subtracting eliminates y, find x
-3x = -3
x =
x = +1

Find y using the 1st equation
1 + 2y = 3
2y = 3 - 1
2y = 2
y =
y = +1

Check solution in the 2nd original equation
2(1) + 1 = 3
