It really doesn't matter the order you do things in; however, in the first example, if you subtract 10 from both sides, you get:
2+-+7x+=+-5x
Next, I would add 7x to both sides:
2+=+2x
x+=+1
All that matters, is you eventually "isolate" the variable on one side, and the result will be on the other side of the "=".
